I mentioned not long ago that DH & I were redecorating my craft room. We didn't get too far with it because of this & that but we got somewhere :)
So one day there I was trying to pull threads for a project I was going to start. I was keeping all of my over-dyed threads in those pesky little bags on a ring (I had 4 rings full to be exact) and all of my extra DMC is just in a box and the DMC I am using are on bobbins in floss boxes. I also had some threads just loose here and there. So there I was looking through ring after ring trying to find the colors I needed, opening the bags then sealing it back up blah blah blah! So I said to my DH how annoying it was to do this and that I wish I had a better way to store my threads. I mentioned something like a rack they have in the store or something. But I didn't want it to be an open rack but something more like a little cabinet with doors.
He asked me to show him what I had and then said" I have an idea! "
My DH was a carpenter for 25 years and I know he comes up with excellent ideas. Whenever anything needs to be done I just let him do what he wants because I know he will come up with something fantastic. He did not disappoint!
Now keep in mind I will be painting my room and will be painting this wonderful floss cabinet he made me. I am also thinking of stenciling some butterflies on the front. But for now you will just see it in it's bare form. Also the first pictures I took are without my DMC but the ones towards the end have my DMC and odd threads included.
I still have tons of room for more threads. I separated the over-dyed threads by brand and then alphabetized them. I left spots where certain letters should be so when I get something with that letter there is a space waiting for them. I did the DMC by numbers and also left spaces for other numbers I don't have extra of.
I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to pull threads for a project now and putting them back when I am done is a breeze!
I also realized I NEED more Crescent Colors floss as I don't have as many as I thought I had and I found doubles of others which I knew I had and probably just couldn't find them at the time. That shouldn't happen anymore ;)
I had a small cabinet in mind and when I saw my DH come out of his workshop (aka garage) with this huge cabinet I asked "Who's the coffin for??" LOL His answer was "you!" :) I am so glad he made this huge cabinet as I probably can fit a lifetimes worth of floss in it if I had to.
My DH is definitely a keeper!
On the stitching front I have finished 1 exchange so far and started working on the next. At this point I am ahead and I plan on staying that way. I also started stitching something from the Jura Point De Croix 2011 exchange I mentioned in an earlier post but I was not liking it at all. So I stopped and decided to pick a different design to stitch from all of the patterns Irene sent me. This kind of thing doesn't happen too often to me but when it does I have learned to stop and move on. No sense at getting annoyed over it ya know?
On Sunday we are having my MIL & FIL over for dinner to celebrate their birthday's and their anniversary! Their birthdays are 4 days apart and their anniversary is a couple of days after that. So it is an all in one! The plan for dinner is grilled shrimp skewers & grilled chicken skewers , potato salad, green salad and a vegetable. DH who is also an excellent baker is making a birthday cake for them. He mentioned something about 4 layers. Good luck pal! LOL I am sure it will come out wonderful!
That's all for now! Thanks so much for stopping by! And welcome to my new followers :)
Have a GREAT weekend!

Beautiful cabinet. Your husband did a fantastic job indeed.
Wonderful cabinet!
Oh, how I wish I had a floss storage cabinet - I'm forever dragging a box of my threads in and out from the under stairs cupboard!
We are having a celebratory weekend too, my cousin's birthday, my sister's birthday and my mum & dad's 40th Wedding anniversary! (the diet MUST start next week!)
Oh Lisa, what a great idea your husband had. And the result is just fantastic. No more heaps of plastic bags, no more desperately looking for that one thread.
Girlfriend, you got you a keeper for sure there! DH did an awesome job. What a fantastic idea.
Hugs,
Lisa
