I am a little late in posting this as the Monarch's came out of their chrysalis's last week but all went well and I released them into the world! I was able to get pictures of them before they started their journey.
This was the first one that hatched. It's a boy! I can tell by the 2 black spots on each hind wing.(In the last picture) They are actually a cluster of scent scales which are used during courtship :) This little guy didn't want to fly away at first. He hung onto my hand for awhile. I finally had to put him onto a plant and after a few seconds he flew into my neighbors bushes.
This is the 2nd one which hatched the next day. Unfortunately it was pouring rain and the release was delayed. By this time it was more than ready to go, so this was the only picture I got. Hard to tell if it was male or female from this pic.
My Milkweed plants are recovering nicely and putting out leaves like crazy. The same with my Fennel that the Black Swallowtails had devoured. I am not sure if I will have anymore caterpillars for the rest of this year as we have been getting cold fronts the past 2 weeks. But then again this is Florida and it is still pretty warm most of the time. I will keep checking my plants though just in case.
I had a wonderful mail week last week. A few exchanges have arrived as well as a Special birthday package from a dear friend.
I will get all of those pictures together and post them soon!
I am back on schedule with my exchange stitching. Just a few more to do than I am done for the year.
Speaking of which I am off to stitch today while doing laundry :)
Thanks so much for stopping by!!

They are just beautiful! It's neat to see what came out of the coocons.
