The other day I told you about the Monarch caterpillars I found on my Milkweed plant. At the time I wrote that I had only seen 4 caterpillars on them. Well the next morning I went out to look and found 2 more for a total of 6 caterpillars!! I was so excited there were more. I noticed my Milkweed was dwindling fast. I do have my monthly butterfly meeting this coming Sunday but I wasn't sure if the Milkweed I had would last. Christine who runs our meetings always has a ton of Milkweed and Passion Vine plants to give away at the meeting, so I know I could get some there. I could also call my friend Vikki or Christine to get some from them but they both live far away from me. So I decided to take a ride to Home Depot to see if they had any left. It is late in the season for them to carry it but I figured it was worth a shot. Luckily they had some! I had to try and find the ones with the most leaves and I ended up purchasing 4 plants.
When I got home I only found 2 of the 6 caterpillars. I spotted one crawling in the mulch coming from another plant. Poor thing was out looking for food :( So I scooped him up and placed him on the Milkweed I just bought and he was chomping away. I decided to leave 2 of the plants in the middle of the patch to lure back the other 4 who had apparently wandered away scouting for more Milkweed. I went out there 3 times yesterday afternoon with none in sight. I even went out this morning and still nothing. I also checked out other plants in the flowerbed but no sign of them. I hope they wander back and find the new Milkweed.
In the meantime I took the 2 caterpillars I did find and I have them on plants in my Lanai. They are almost ready to go to Chrysalis and I soon as I think they are ready I will put them in my cage.
I will be sure to load up on more Milkweed at my Butterfly meeting on Sunday .....just in case! I guess I catch the Monarchs as they are flying south for the winter as this is the time of year I see them.
A couple of pictures of the Monarch babies I have rescued.
I mailed out 2 of my exchanges the other day and I started on another one. I had to order a few Kreinik braids for a design I chose for another exchange and Thanks to Joanne at 123stitch they arrived in 2 days :) So I am all set to start on that one.
The weather has been gorgeous here in Florida for the past few days! Temperatures have been in the mid 80's during the day and in the mid 60's at night! The humidity has been low and I've had my sliders open and the a/c off for most of the day. By afternoon it has to go on though because the sun is so hot.
Well that is all for today dear friends! The electric company is outside fiddling around with the pole in front of my house, so I expect to loose power any time now. They are changing all of the power poles in the neighborhood so I guess it is my turn. Doesn't bother me though because the weather is so beautiful I will go sit outside on my Lanai and stitch!
Thanks so very much for stopping by!
Have a good day!

Okay...trying again!
I hope you are successful in luring the lost caterpillars back to the milkweed. We have lots of that plant around here and I never knew the caterpillars favored it. Maybe I'll have to go walk the ditches next summer to see what I can see. I'm sure with the frost we've had lately there won't be any caterpillars there now. Happy stitching!
